MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

As I begin my term as Chairperson of the Branch, I would like to thank Jean Bircham and her executive for all the work they have done on behalf of the branch. I hope that we, the new Executive, can do as much during our term. 1991 is going to be a busy year for the Branch and we need the help and support of all our members. On April 13 the Branch is hosting the Region II meeting at the L. D. S. Church, we will be finishing the Church Records Inventory Project and starting the Inn Roads to Ancestry Project. Thanks to all those members who are helping with these projects. We welcome any suggestions that you may have for future programs.

Marg Daugharty

MEETINGS

December: Hosted by the Elgin County Branch O.G.S. at St. Mark’s United Church, catered by the Ladies Unit of the church, with guests being the Elgin County Historical Society. After a delicious meal Pat Zimmer, Director of the Aylmer and District Museum, displayed some old-fashioned social pastimes and gave a series of puzzles naming some Christmas carols. A social time followed.

January: Frank Prothero gave an interesting talk, accompanied by slides, about the history of the Stork Club, Port Stanley. He stirred memories of the good times that were had at the Stork Club. The annual election of officers followed. Year-end reports were given.

February: Something new was tried; a HELP NIGHT. People with some expertise in land petitions, surrogate court records, Irish and Scottish research, land registry records, and how to begin your genealogy, were involved.

March: Don Cosens will talk about the WELTER-HENDERSHOT CASE.

April: Bill Yeager from the Eva Brook Donley Museum in Simcoe

May: Alison Lobb, O.G.S. president, will make a presentation.

June: Debra Verkutis will speak on COMPUTERS. This is also our annual strawberry social.
