Genealogical Research in Elgin County, Ontario, Canada

The area now known as Elgin County, Ontario, Canada was first settled in 1803

Assessment Rolls – Includes index of earliest Aldborough Township 1820 Assessment roll

Cemetery Transcriptions – The Elgin OGS has transcribed the inscriptions of most of the current gravestones in Elgin County and makes the transcriptions available free online. 

Census Indexes –  The Elgin County 1842 Township census indexes are online free. We are now linking names to the free FamilySearch Elgin County census images

Funeral Home Records – Several of the Elgin County Funeral Homes have records that have been indexed.

Land Records – Upper Canada Land Petitions (UCLP) links to the Elgin petition images are linked to Elgin settlers. The Elgin County Township papers have been indexed for ancestor names.

Military Indexes – 1828 Militiamen, War of 1812 veterans, Civil War, Boer War , World War 1 and World War II veterans, Cenotaphs of Elgin County are given. Now adding 1838 Elgin militiamen.
