This small cemetery takes its name from a community called Seville, which once existed nearby. However, the cemetery was actually associated with a Quaker Meeting House which was located on the property. According to Sims History of Elgin County, the tiny community obtained a name and a post office in1880. Nearby was Newell’s Corners which was named after John Newell who operated a blacksmith shop on the southwest corner of what is now Walker Road, which intersected with Highway 3 (Talbot Line). John & Elizabeth Newell lived near the Quaker church, and are buried in the cemetery.

An 1846 Directory states that “there was a fair settlement of 160 Quakers, most living just east of Aylmer”. A meeting house was built on the northwest corner of lot 26, concession 6 (or lot 99, south side Talbot Road), the lot having been acquired from Reuben Kennedy on Oct. 22, 1845. The Preparative Meeting established in 1845, under the Norwich Monthly Meeting. A “Preparative” was the name given to a local group under a “Monthly” meeting. After this meeting house closed in 1892, it is probable that the congregation used the Dunboyne Union Church for some services, as there is a reference to Quaker meetings being held there.

The Meeting House stood until the 1940’s and was sold and removed to a farm where it was used for a barn.

The markers in the cemetery have been brought together and placed on a concrete pad. A grey granite marker placed at the corner of the concrete pad reads:

QUAKER CEMETERY – 1845
