HANDSOME MEMORIAL WINDOW

Two beautiful memorial windows have been placed in St Peter’s Church, Tyrconnell by probably its oldest member, Stephen Backus.  These windows are real works of art, and not only perpetuate the memory of loved ones, but add to the historic interest attaching to St Peter’s.  One of the widows is dedicated to Elizabeth Burgess, wife of Mr Backus, and is entitled “Christ the Sower”.  The other window representing Christ knocking at the door, contains the following inscription: “in Memory of Mary Storey, grandparent, donor of St Peter’s glebe lands, and Stephen and Ann Backus, father and mother, who with two or three other families erected St Peter’s Church in 1827”.  The chancel window which was donated by the late John Pearce, was put in 54 years ago.
