A plaque, hanging on the concrete wall which borders the cemetery along Highway 3, is decorated with Scotch thistles in the upper corners and reads as follows:

New Glasgow Pioneer Cemetery

This is the first cemetery in the district
where rest many pioneers of Aldborough
and adjoining townships, who migrated
from the Scottish Highlands in 1817, and
also those who followed later from
other parts

It is recorded that in 1818 Dugald McLarty
and James Ruthven, who were drowned
as they attempted to land at what is
now Port Glasgow were the first two white
people buried here

May we be worthy of the sacrifice, faith
and vision of our pioneer forefathers
whose memory today we delight to honour
and desire to perpetuate
