A plaque (erected 1990) in the cemetery reads:

Churchville Evangelical Cemetery – est. 1875

In 1845 Germans of the Evangelical faith started to settle in Aldborough Township. During 1860 the Rev. Henry Sauer travelled on foot or horseback from Willoughby Township, near Fort Erie to hold services in Churchville. The first church was built in 1860 on the corner of Middle Street and Kerr Road and replaced by a larger one in 1876. On Saturday evening, September 19, 1948 the tall steeple was struck by lightning and the church burned to the ground. The Evangelical Cemetery was established in 1875 for members and adherents of the Rodney and Churchville congregations. In January of 1968 the Evangelical United Brethren Church became a part of the United Church of Canada.
